Shoscombe AMP7 & AMP8 Improvements

Delivering a fully integrated AMP7 and AMP8 upgrade programme at Shoscombe WRC through coordinated design, advanced BIM modelling, and efficient sequencing to improve compliance, reduce costs, and optimise operational performance.

Overview

Shoscombe WRC required upgrades across both AMP7 and AMP8. Instead of treating these as separate schemes, the programmes were merged and delivered by a single integrated team. This
eliminated duplicate mobilization costs, reduced disruption and ensured continuity from design through commissioning.

The combined programme successfully met all AMP7 and AMP8 permit requirements

Objectives

AMP7:

  • Reduce DWF from 505m3/d -> 308 m3/d
  • Increase storm storage from 48m3 -> 165m3
  • Install Event Duration Monitoring (EDM)
  • Maintain FFT at 18 l/s

AMP8:

  • Introduce phosphorus removal (1 mg/l limit)
  • Meet new iron standards (4/8 mg/l)
  • Achieve UWTD BOD (25 mg/l) and COD (125mg/l)
  • Improve sludge management and provide alkalinity dosing capacity

Design & Coordination

  • Applied YTL OSB standard products where feasible, supplemented by bespoke solutions due to site constraints
  • Continuous design involvement enabled real-time modifications, preventing delays
  • A coordinated 3D model acted as the single source of truth, resolving crashes early and sequencing around live assets.

Site Layout Strategy

  • Existing footprint optimised through selective demolition of redundant assets
  • Sequencing planned around live systems to avoid service interruptions.
  • Combined AMP8 delivery removed the need for remobilisation, reducing cost and risk
  • Consistent team across both AMPs retained site knowledge and momentum
  • Sequenced design ensured AMP7 works aligned with AMP8 interfaces, avoiding abortive work
  • Early risk management secured access agreements and utility connections
  • Proven technologies (ferric dosing, EDM) kept commissioning costs low.
  • Complete AMP8 commissioning and conform compliance by June 2026
  • Validate EDM data transmission to the EA
  • Optimise ferric dosing based on real-time effluent data
  • Document programme and cost efficiencies from combined AMP8 delivery.
  • Apply the combined-delivery model to future sequential AMP schemes.
